HRW Tour Production Estimate Lower Than Expected

The Wheat Quality Council hard red winter tour concluded yesterday and scouts calculated an average yield at 40.7 bushels per acre, close to last year's 40.8 bushels per acre. Scouts on the tour had expected to see higher yields due to the high crop condition ratings this spring. Total production in Kansas is projected at 333.5 million bushels, close to last year's estimate of 333.3 million bushels. Pre-tour estimates had pegged production closer to 360 million bushels.
