NDWC sets budget, elects officers

Posted: Sep 24 2019

At its July reorganization meeting, the NDWC board approved its 2019-20 budget, elected officers and determined other portfolio assignments for board members.  The Commission board approved a budget of $5.1 million, an increase of about $500,000 over the previous year.  Much of the increase in funding was allocated to export market development and research – the two categories that are consistently rated as top priorities from both the Commission board and individual producer county representatives.

Export market development and research accounts for more than two-thirds of the this year’s budget as the board recognizes the effort needed to maintain and expand markets for North Dakota wheat classes, as well as provide timely and necessary research to help increase agronomic value for producers and help address breeding, quality and agronomic challenges.  Other key budget areas include domestic promotion, domestic policy, trade policy and market and public information.

In addition to approving the budget, the Commission elected Greg Svenningsen of Valley City as Chairman and Philip Volk of York as Vice Chairman.  Other portfolio assignments and representation to national and state boards was decided at the meeting.
